Back in 2012, S. Morris required new strapping and stretch hooding equipment as part of an overall investment programme, which included a new automated concrete block production line.
The solutions
We supplied an 06RP horizontal strapping machine, an 08RP vertical strapping machine and an IS43 stretch hooding system on the first packaging line and another 06RP strapper on the second packaging line. The equipment was all manufactured by OMS, whom Gordian has represented in the UK for over 35 years and are one of the European leaders in palletised packaging systems.
This video shows the second packaging line and the OMS 06RP system in action, where concrete walling blocks are strapped horizontally with polyproylene straps. In the other packaging line, concrete-facing bricks are delivered along the conveyor belt and need a slightly more complex system.
They are first vertically strapped by the OMS 08RP strapper, then horizontally strapped like the blocks in the video above, before finally being stretch hooded by the OMS IS43. The IS43 stretch hooder applies the film with the gusset corners on the inside, ensuring optimum pack presentation.
The two strappers come with the impressive OMS strapping heads, which are designed to cope with the demanding conditions in the building products industry and only require a service every 200,000 cycles.
