Gordian Strapping Powers Basingstoke Operations with New Solar Installation

23.09.26 | 2 minutes read

At Gordian Strapping, we’re continually looking for ways to improve the efficiency and sustainability of our operations.

As part of this commitment, we have recently installed solar panels at our 30,000 sq. ft. factory in Basingstoke, providing a new source of renewable energy for our day-to-day operations.

Powering 40% of Our Annual Electricity Usage

Once fully operational, the solar panels are expected to generate enough renewable energy to provide approximately 40% of Gordian Strapping’s annual electricity usage.

For a busy 30,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and operational facility, generating a significant proportion of our electricity on-site helps reduce our reliance on grid electricity while lowering the environmental impact of our operations.

Returning Renewable Energy to the Grid

The benefits of the installation extend beyond the energy used directly by Gordian Strapping.

Approximately 30% of the electricity generated by the solar panels is expected to be fed back into the national grid, allowing renewable energy that is not required by our facility to be used elsewhere. This means the system will not only help us reduce our own reliance on grid electricity but will also contribute additional renewable electricity to the wider energy network.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

One of the biggest reasons behind the investment is the long-term reduction in carbon emissions.

The solar panel system has a guaranteed lifespan of 25 years and is expected to provide an annual CO₂ reduction of approximately 9,000kg.

Based on that annual figure, the installation has the potential to avoid approximately 225,000kg of CO₂ emissions over its guaranteed 25-year lifespan.

Investing in a More Sustainable Future

Sustainability is an increasingly important consideration throughout the manufacturing, packaging and logistics sectors. Investing in renewable energy is one practical way we can make our operations more efficient and reduce their environmental impact.

Our new solar installation allows us to generate a substantial proportion of the electricity we use directly from our own premises while reducing carbon emissions and returning surplus renewable energy to the grid.

It is another positive investment in the future of our Basingstoke factory and in making Gordian Strapping’s operations more sustainable for the years ahead.
