Introducing Twoey
A family-run company from Cumbria, Twoey was born by Michael Miller making toys and furniture for his granddaughters back in 1994. A quarter of a decade on and Twoey is still going strong, shipping to a range of education authorities across the globe.
They provide safe, sturdy products and therefore need robust and reliable strapping machines. Here’s a video showing their impressive factory:

Now listen up kids, because this is lesson 101 about packaging securement:
Strapping your product by hand lacks the efficiency needed in manufacturing.
Of course, there are use cases – those who use strapping very infrequently and don’t have the capital to upgrade. For those people, check out our hand strapping tools here. But for those who are regularly using strap to secure their packages, there really is no other alternative than a strapping machine.
Furthermore, Twoey is an excellent manufacturer with a lot of major clients, so they needed a solution to reflect this. When they first contacted Gordian, their strapping process was entirely by hand, which is an unreliable solution with the volume of production they were getting through.
Therefore, their brief to us was simple – reduce packaging times through a more sophisticated system, whilst trying to be as cost-effective as possible. Fortunately, our StraPack strapping machines offer a premium solution that increases production capabilities through reliable output.
You wouldn’t buy a Ford KA for a road trip across Europe, so why settle for less when it comes to your company’s production operations?
The Answer
Whilst we’re really eking out this education theme, here’s a maths question to contend with:
If it took Johnny 3 minutes and 30 seconds to strap a wooden furniture panel and it took Sarah just 45 seconds, how much time would be saved per pack?
The answer is of course 165 seconds or 2 minutes 45 seconds.
That’s what we were able to save on Twoey’s packing time – increase production by more than 30% while maintaining the same level of employees. Additionally, the greater output meant they could facilitate more orders and continue to grow as a business.
But how did we do this? I’ll show my workings out…
Above you can see the process that Twoey follows – with two warehouse operators creating an enclosed corrugated box around the panels, before letting the automatic straps be applied both lengthways and widthways.
You can also see the speed of the operation – two RQ-8A machines are on the go at the same time, meaning Twoey’s products can be packaged efficiently.

Our Strapping Machines
The StraPack RQ-8A is an extremely reliable strapping machine that can be integrated into an automated conveyor line or operated by people – as shown here. Furthermore, it’s ready to operate in just 25 seconds, easy to maintain and features self-correcting technology in the unlikely event of a short feed.

Bespoke Machinery with Gordian Strapping
Twoey’s machine was also completely bespoke to them. They took advantage of our in-house engineering team who can create custom modifications to ensure full machine capability. For Twoey, this involved the fitting of wide arches, to ensure the larger panels could be strapped comfortably.
Overall, Twoey very super pleased with our service and their machines, with Director, Tara Telford saying:
If you have any questions regarding our strapping machines, do feel free to contact a member of our team here.
