Introducing AAK
AAK are the world’s leading manufacturer of high-value-added speciality vegetable oil and has been operating for over 150 years. Their plant-based oils make products better tasting, healthier, and more sustainable – acting as a substitute for certain ingredients which helps to optimise production.
Across the world they have 4,000 employees, 25 regional sales offices, 15 dedicated Customer Innovation Centers, and 20 production facilities.
For this project, we worked with their production facility in Hull which is central to their UK operations.
A Premium System For A Premium Product
The requirement for new packaging equipment was influenced by a number of factors. Firstly, the existing system had become unreliable, resulting in downtime, which was compounded by inadequate engineering support and the high cost of spare parts.
Furthermore, the cost of strapping was at a premium because it could only be sourced in a special size from the existing supplier. The system solution, an OMS 875 with a single sword TR14 HD strapping head, ticked all the boxes.
AAK UK runs three daily shifts, meaning that the robust and reliable equipment supplied by Gordian was particularly attractive. The modular components of the strapping head, which allow for easy changeover were also an important factor, as well as Gordian’s nationwide service support network.
