Recently, this commitment was put to the test when we faced unexpected supply
chain challenges that could have jeopardised a significant order. But thanks to
the speed, dedication and teamwork of our staff, we were able to not only meet
but exceed our customer’s expectations.
The Challenge: A Race Against Time
The UK’s largest newspaper and magazine distributor placed another large order with Gordian, a testament to the trust they place in our machines and service. We had successfully delivered multiple machines before, and this time the stakes were even higher. The order was substantial, requiring delivery to multiple sites across the country, each with its unique setup requirements.
However, due to unforeseen supply chain delays, the shipment of machines arrived later than anticipated. It wasn’t until 2pm on a Tuesday that the machines were delivered to our Basingstoke facility, leaving us with a very narrow window to meet the customer’s expectations. The clock was ticking, and we had to ensure that everything was ready to go in just over 48 hours.
Rising to the Occasion: Teamwork in Action
The moment the machines hit our warehouse, the Gordian team sprang into action. Every department played a crucial role in the process—this was teamwork at its finest. Our warehouse staff immediately got to work, unloading and de-crating the machines with impressive speed and precision. Despite the tight timeline, they ensured that every step was executed with care and attention to detail.
From there, our engineering team took over, working quickly to assemble the machines, carry out customer-specific setup requirements, and conduct rigorous testing to ensure everything was functioning flawlessly. Their ability to customise and configure the machines to meet the precise needs of each site was critical to the success of the operation. Every engineer approached their work with a sense of urgency but also with the care and expertise our customers expect from Gordian.
Once the machines were assembled, tested and approved, they were handed back to the warehouse team for final dispatch. By Thursday afternoon—just two days after the machines had arrived—we were ready to ship them out to multiple sites across the UK, ensuring that our customer would experience no disruption in their operations.

The entire operation moved with the efficiency and coordination of a Formula 1 pit crew. Every department understood their role and executed it to perfection. What could have been a major disruption was turned into a triumph of teamwork and customer service.
